Your ride as a 3D video: a flyover with live numbers

Premium

After the ride, the camera flies your route once more in 20 seconds, with speedometer, elevation and flags at top speed and maximum lean. DriveBattle for Android makes the video on your phone and hands it to the share menu.

Premium is the lean angle in the video: display, coloured route and flag. Speedometer, elevation and the other flags are not part of it. During the beta everything is unlocked.

The dial, the coloured route and the "Max lean" flag in this example are Premium. Route, elevation and curves are real (Bergisches Land, 65.6 km). Speed and lean are simulated, calculated from this route's speed limits, corner radii and junctions. In the app's own video you see your measured values.

How the video is made

Open the ride summary and scroll to the end. In the "Share" section, rides with track data show the "Video" tile first. A tap on "Create video" starts the rendering. A progress bar shows how many percent are done, and it takes a few minutes. Then your phone's share menu opens and you send the MP4 file to an app of your choice.

Rendered on your phone, no queue

The video is made entirely on your phone, not on a server. There is no queue, and rendering takes a few minutes. The map comes from DriveBattle's self-hosted vector tiles. Measured on a Pixel 10, rendering ran 2.6 times faster than on the server without a graphics card.

What you see in the video

The camera flies in 3D along the ride over your map, in portrait format (1080 x 1920 pixels). At the bottom the speedometer shows the current speed, next to it the speed profile of the whole ride. Four tiles show kilometres, time, elevation and the ride's peak value: top speed, or with Premium the maximum lean. A progress bar shows how far the flight has come. Units and labels follow your app settings and the app language.

Flags at the peak values

Flags on the map show where you reached top speed, maximum lean and the highest point, each with its value. They fade in as the camera passes and fade out again, so the map stays clear. At the peak values the camera slows down so you can read the number. The altitude flag only appears on a ride with at least 250 metres of height difference, on flatland tours it is missing. When two spots lie close together, lean beats top speed and top speed beats altitude.

Lean angle in the video (Premium)

On motorcycle rides the video shows the measured lean angle in three places. Next to the speedometer a dial swings left and right and keeps the peak of each side as a mark. The route on the map is coloured by lean angle: grey below 8 degrees, green up to 25, orange up to 40, red above. Since the lean angle on a real country road stays near zero most of the time, only the few corners stand out. In the chart, speed sits above a shared baseline and lean is mirrored below it, both labelled with a name and a peak value. The "Max lean" flag and the fourth tile with the ride's maximum lean angle belong here too. This display is part of Premium.

Without Premium and on car rides

Without Premium and on car rides you get the same map, the same speedometer and the same tiles. The dial is missing, the route stays plain orange, the chart uses the full width and the fourth tile shows top speed. The flags for top speed and highest point stay. On a motorcycle the lean angle is measured for everyone, only the display is Premium.

Privacy

The video shows only the route that is left after your privacy zones, even to you. The longest of these trimmed sections is rendered, never the raw track. If you set a zone around your home, the start and end of the ride are missing in the video. Without a zone the video shows the whole route.

Requirements and status

The video is part of DriveBattle for Android, for rides with track data. The video itself came with version 0.21.84, the flags at the peak values and the lean angle in the video with 0.21.88, the slower camera at the peaks with 0.22.35. New versions reach all users in Google Play only after Google's review, so an older version lacks part of it.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make a 3D video of my ride?
Open the ride summary, scroll to the "Share" section, choose the "Video" tile and tap "Create video". After a few minutes your phone's share menu opens.
How long is the video and where is it made?
20 seconds in portrait format, entirely on your phone. There is no queue on a server.
Is the flyover video part of Premium?
The video is not on the Premium list. Premium is only the lean angle in the video: dial, coloured route, the lean half of the chart and the "Max lean" flag. During the beta everything is unlocked.
Does the video work for car rides too?
Yes, in the car view: no dial, a plain orange route and top speed in the fourth tile. The lean angle is only measured on motorcycles.
Does the video show where I live?
Not with a privacy zone around your home: the start and end of the ride are cut off, also in the video you share yourself. Without a zone the video shows the whole route.
Why does my video have no flag for the highest point?
The flag only appears when the ride has at least 250 metres of height difference. On flatland tours it is missing so that it does not mark a random spot. When two flags lie too close together, the weaker one drops out: lean before top speed before altitude.
Are the numbers in the example video real?
Route, elevation and curves come from a real 65.6 km loop in the Bergisches Land. Speed and lean are simulated, calculated from this route's speed limits, corner radii and junctions. In your own video you see your measured values.
