Fixed speed cameras on the map and along your route
Premium
You plan a tour over country roads and want to know where fixed speed cameras stand. DriveBattle draws them as red camera markers on the map: in navigation, in the route preview and in the car. The data comes from OpenStreetMap. You switch on a warning while driving yourself, and it is part of Premium.
Premium: warning while driving. The display on the map is free. During the beta everything is unlocked.
One marker at every fixed camera
A red camera marker shows where a fixed speed camera stands. If the map data has a speed limit for it, the number appears below the marker. You see the markers in navigation and in the route preview. With Android Auto the map in the car shows them too, and Android Auto is part of Premium. The display is switched on by default.
Only cameras along your route
In the route preview and in navigation the app shows the cameras that lie at most 1.5 km from the route, for all variants when there are alternative routes. That leaves enough room on the map for the road. When the app recalculates the route, it loads the markers for the new course.
Where the data comes from
The cameras come from OpenStreetMap. DriveBattle serves them from its own servers out of a database with more than 75,000 entries worldwide and rebuilds that database once a month. Volunteers maintain OpenStreetMap: a newly installed camera is missing until someone enters it. The app does not show mobile checks, only fixed installations. The source is credited on the map: Speed cameras: © OpenStreetMap contributors.
Visible without a connection too
The app stores the cameras it has loaded for your routes and riding areas on the device. Without a connection it keeps showing those markers, even when the data is older than seven days. When you download an offline map, the app fetches the cameras of that region along with it. Offline maps are part of Premium.
Warning while driving: Premium and switched off
The warning is off by default and part of Premium. You switch it on under Settings, Drive, Warn while driving. It only exists while the display on the map is on. Then the phone vibrates 350 m and 150 m before a fixed camera, optionally with the announcement "Attention, speed camera in 300 meters". Each location gets at most these two alerts. If the camera's direction of travel is in the data, the app skips cameras on the opposite carriageway. When a navigation starts, it announces how many cameras are on the route. With Android Auto a card with the distance appears from 1000 m, and with the voice announcement on, the spoken alert comes with it. Both require that you have switched on the warning in the phone app.
Your responsibility and the cost
Showing fixed speed cameras on the map is free. The warning while driving is Premium. You are responsible for how you use it: in some countries an active warning is not allowed, in Germany § 23 Abs. 1c StVO covers it. Check the rules before you ride wherever you are going. The road signs always take precedence. This page describes the Android app.
