A country package holds the road data of one country. You download it once on Wi-Fi. After that your phone calculates routes in that country itself, in a dead zone as well as abroad with no roaming. DriveBattle runs on Android.

One package per country

A country package is the navigation data the phone uses to calculate a route. There is one package per country. You download the offline map separately, by region if you like.

How to load a package

Open Settings, Offline maps and expand a country. Right above the regions you find the row "Offline navigation" with the size of the package. Tap Download and confirm, then the download starts. The row only appears for countries that have a package ready.

How big a package is

A country package is large. As a guide, the package for Germany is around 5.7 GB. The app shows the current size before the download and recommends Wi-Fi. It also checks that enough storage is free: the rest of the download plus a 200 MB reserve must fit. The download keeps running when you leave the app and continues after a network loss.

Which package the app uses

The app checks whether the starting point of your route lies inside the rectangle of a downloaded country. If it does, it shows "Offline route available" and calculates with that package. If you have several countries loaded, it takes the one you start in. So every route uses exactly one package.

Abroad with no roaming

Download the package of your destination country at home on Wi-Fi before you leave. In the destination country you start a route and the phone calculates it from the package, with no data connection and so no roaming. The position comes from GPS. If you later start a new route in another country, the package of that country applies.

What a package does not replace

Round trips, the curvy candidate search, the speed limit lookup, "Follow me" and your own waypoints still need a connection. The app deliberately does not store live traffic data offline.

Update and delete

Each country has its own version. If a package is outdated, the app loads the update automatically, but only on Wi-Fi. Over mobile data an update button shows up instead. You remove a finished package with "Remove navigation data", also without Premium. During a download, one tap cancels it.

Country packages are Premium

Country packages are part of Premium. During the beta everything is unlocked. After that Premium is paid, the purchase runs through Google Play and Google Play shows the price. Without Premium the row shows a lock and leads to Premium. Packages already downloaded stay on the device but are not used.
