Every kilometer earns 1 XP: this is how you level up

Every kilometer you ride earns 1 XP. The total sets your level, and the ring around your avatar changes color every 10 levels. In DriveBattle for Android the Profile tab shows how many XP you still need for the next level.

Where XP come from

The base is distance: 1 XP per kilometer ridden. On top come 1 XP per 10 curves, 1 XP per 100 meters of elevation gain and 1 XP per kilometer within the speed limit. Twisty and hilly rides pay off. An example with the tour in the Bergisches Land: 65.6 km, 152 curves and 932 meters of elevation give 65 + 15 + 9 = 89 XP, plus the speed bonus. That is already enough for level 2.

The speed bonus

The app matches your route to the speed limits from OpenStreetMap. Every kilometer within the limit earns 1 XP, with a tolerance of 9 km/h above it. Where no limit is mapped, there is no bonus. Riding slowly or sitting in a traffic jam costs nothing. If the matching fails, the ride still arrives, just without the bonus.

Countries, regions and the weekly streak

A new country earns 250 XP once, if you rode at least 5 km there. A new region or state earns 50 XP once. Both bonuses together are capped at 1,200 XP in 7 days. The weekly streak counts weeks in a row with at least one ride. It pays 25 XP times the length of the streak, 250 at most, and arrives with the first upload of the new week. A current week without a ride does not break the streak yet.

Badges, the phone question and invitations

Every unlocked badge gives XP once: 25 for bronze, 50 for silver, 100 for gold, 250 for the OG badge. The app asks where your phone was during the ride and pays 10 XP per ride, whatever you answer. If you invite a friend, you get 1,000 XP as soon as the friend has ridden 750 km. You find your code in the app under Invite & reward, and the link only works for new users.

Limits and what does not count

Distance, speed, curves and elevation share a limit of 1,500 XP per day. One-time bonuses do not count against it. Rides that do not count in leaderboards earn no XP. If you delete a ride, the ride XP from it are removed. Bonuses for countries, regions, streaks and badges stay.

How the level is calculated

Your level rises with your XP total. Level n needs 50 × (n − 1)² XP: level 2 is at 50 XP, level 10 at 4,050, level 20 at 18,050 and level 50 at 120,050. There is no upper limit. The first levels come fast, later every step gets steeper. Every 10 levels the ring around your avatar changes color: gray up to level 9, then bronze, silver, gold, cyan, carbon and light blue, orange from level 70.

Your journey in the app

In the Profile tab a bar shows how many XP you still need for the next level. Tap it to open “Your journey”: your level, your XP, the level path with reached and upcoming steps, “How you earn XP” with the total per source, the weekly streak and your XP history. After every ride the ride summary shows the “XP earned” card with the split by source. You can open it again later.

Level up and leaderboard

When you cross a level threshold, the app celebrates with a full-screen animation. Your crew gets a notification and an entry in the feed. If you do not want those notifications, switch off “Level up” under Settings, Notifications. In the Battle tab XP is also a leaderboard metric. It applies to single riders, not to crew vs. crew.

XP for Premium time

Under Invite & reward you can trade XP for Premium time: 10,000 XP for 1 day, 50,000 XP for 1 week, 100,000 XP for 1 month. Redeemed XP are deducted, your level drops accordingly, and the trade cannot be undone. During the beta Premium is unlocked anyway, redeeming starts after the beta.
