Create a crew
In the Crews tab you tap “Create”, enter the crew name in the “New crew” dialog and confirm with “Create”. The name can be up to 80 characters long and exists only once worldwide, upper and lower case do not count as different. The app rejects names with terms like Admin, Support or DriveBattle. After that you are the owner of the crew. Whether your routes and your live location are shared with the new crew right away follows your settings. The default is off.
Join with a code or a link
Every crew has an invite code made of capital letters and digits. In the Crews tab you tap “Join”, enter the code in the “Join crew” dialog and confirm with “Join”. Lower case is no problem. It is easier with the invite link drivebattle.com/join/ followed by the code: if DriveBattle is installed, the link opens the app and joins the crew right away. Without the app, the page shows the code and the way to Google Play. After many wrong codes within an hour, the server rejects further attempts.
Show and scan the QR code
In the crew you tap “Invite”. The app shows the crew’s QR code and the code as text, and “Share invite” sends the link and the code as a message. Whoever wants to join picks “Scan QR code” in the join dialog and points the camera at the code. The app asks for camera access only when you open the scanner, and it reads the images on the phone only. A valid code joins at once, there is no second confirmation. A foreign QR code, for example for a Wi-Fi network, triggers nothing: the app says it is not a crew invite. Without a camera or without permission, you type the code as usual.
Open crews and join requests
In the crew, the owner can switch on “Open join requests”. Then anyone sees the “Request to join” button in the public crew profile and can add a message of up to 300 characters. The default is off: joining only with an invite code. The owner gets a notification and sees the open requests as a list in the crew. They accept or decline each one. Whoever is accepted gets a notice and is a member. For routes and live location, their own defaults apply, not the owner’s. A declined request can be sent again. The crew profile can also be viewed in the browser without a login.
Crew profile and photo permission
The owner sets a crew picture and a description of up to 300 characters. There is also the switch “Photos for all members”: when it is on, everyone can send photos in the crew chat, otherwise only members with Premium. Viewing is never locked. The public profile also shows the rank among all crews, the figures and the member list with name, avatar and level.
Hand over the lead, leave, delete
The owner can hand the lead to any other member: in the member list you tap the “Transfer ownership” icon next to the member and confirm. You become a regular member, and only the new owner can undo this. The new owner gets a notification. Deactivated or unconfirmed accounts cannot receive the lead. Whoever leaves the crew keeps all their rides. If the owner leaves, the lead goes to the longest-serving active member, and the last member dissolves the crew by leaving. The owner can also delete the crew. It then disappears for all members, including the crew feed and the crew ranking, while the members’ rides stay.
What the crew sees of you
Members always see your figures. You release the route and your live location for each crew separately, with the switches “Share tracks” and “Share live location” in the crew. Privacy zones cut off the shared route, and inside a zone you are missing from the live map. If you are in several crews, you decide per crew.
