Share your live location: Follow me guides others straight to you
You are already riding, a friend wants to catch up. In DriveBattle for Android you share your live location for 5 minutes up to 24 hours. The other person sees you on the map and navigates to your position, even while you keep moving.
How to start Follow me
Open the Drive tab and tap "Follow me". There are two ways: "To a driver" and "Via link". With "To a driver" you pick a friend from the list or search for a rider and set the duration. The other person gets an invitation as a notification and accepts or declines it. Between two riders only one invitation can be open at a time.
By link, no app and no account
"Via link" creates a web link nobody can guess. Whoever opens it sees your live location in the browser, with no account and no installation. You send the link through any app you already use. Your counterpart can enter a name and share their own location, and then you see them too. The page keeps the screen awake while it is visible. If your counterpart switches to another app, the browser slows down the location updates, and they briefly show as offline.
Navigation to your position
The recipient navigates to you with voice guidance, even while you move. The route recalculates as soon as you get more than 150 metres away from the route end or they leave the route by more than 60 metres, at most every 20 seconds. In the browser it starts with "Navigate". Your position only arrives every 5 to 15 seconds. The app extends it along your heading and speed, so your arrow with name and speed glides across the map instead of jumping.
When someone goes offline for a moment
If you lose signal, your last known position and the route stay in place. The recipient sees "Target offline" and keeps navigating there. Your phone sends your position as long as a share is active, even without a ride running and without the Follow me view open. Follow me does not work without a connection, not even with offline maps.
Who sees what
With an app invitation both sides see each other. With a link, everyone who has it sees you. You only see your counterpart if they share their location. Privacy zones do not apply to Follow me, because you hand over your location on purpose. "End" stops the share at any time, otherwise it ends after the duration you picked. The list shows every share as LIVE, PENDING or LINK. The guest page then shows that sharing has ended.
Follow me and the crew map
The crew's live map shows permanently who in your crew is riding right now, and only when "Share live position" is on for that crew. Privacy zones apply there. Follow me is a time-limited share between two people, made for meeting up on the road.
Frequently asked questions
- How can I share my live location if the other person does not have the app?
- In the Drive tab, under "Follow me", create a link with "Via link". The other person opens it in the browser, with no account and no installation, and sees your live location. They can share their own location and navigate to you from there.
- How long does the live location sharing last?
- You choose the duration between 5 minutes and 24 hours. With "End" you stop the share earlier at any time.
- Can the other person navigate to my live location?
- Yes. Navigation leads to your current position and recalculates the route as you keep moving. If your phone goes offline briefly, the other person navigates to your last known position.
- Do privacy zones apply to Follow me?
- No. Follow me deliberately shares your exact location with one person or with anyone who has the link. Privacy zones protect routes and the crew's live map instead.
- Is Follow me part of Premium?
- No, Follow me is not on the Premium list. Premium includes the curvy navigation and offline maps, among other things.
