How to set the starting value
The odometer is part of a vehicle's maintenance. Open "Vehicles" in the settings, tap "Set up maintenance" on the vehicle card and enter your current odometer reading. "Activate" starts the count. Every vehicle has its own reading, for a motorcycle and a car alike.
What gets counted
The total includes the distance of every ride you record with this vehicle that ends after you entered the value. A ride counts as soon as it is uploaded, even if you rode it without a network. Rides with another vehicle or with none do not count for this one. Rides that are flagged as implausible and therefore stay out of the leaderboards are counted here too. Your dashboard keeps turning after all, and for maintenance a reading that is too high is safer than one that is too low.
Where you see the reading
In the maintenance view a card shows the current reading with the note "Updates automatically with every tracked drive." On the vehicle card it sits in the maintenance row next to the next item. The display follows the "Units" setting: kilometres or miles, and with "Auto" it follows your device region (US/UK: miles, elsewhere kilometres). Internally everything is calculated in kilometres.
When the reading drifts from your dashboard
DriveBattle does not read your dashboard. The app adds the distance measured by GPS. A ride you did not record, another vehicle selected, or GPS deviations make the total drift away from the dashboard over time. Then you tap the pencil icon next to the reading in the maintenance view ("Adjust odometer"), enter the dashboard reading and tap "Save". The new value counts as the starting value from that moment, and the app carries on counting from there. If the reading ends up lower, a maintenance item can drop out of being due.
What the reading is for
A maintenance item with an interval in kilometres uses the reading to work out how many kilometres have passed since it was last done. At 90 percent of the interval the first notification arrives. When you tick an item off with "Done", the current reading is prefilled and you can change it. Setup, intervals and notifications are covered on the maintenance page.
Your dashboard stays the reference
The odometer in DriveBattle is the basis of your reminders. For anything official and for a sale, your vehicle's own dashboard reading applies. The odometer is not a Premium feature.
Frequently asked questions
- How does DriveBattle keep count of the odometer?
- You enter the reading once. After that the app adds the distance of every recorded ride that ends after you entered it and is assigned to this vehicle.
- Can you count kilometres with a phone?
- Yes, for a vehicle in DriveBattle. The phone measures the distance by GPS while you record a ride. Rides you do not record are missing from the total.
- Does DriveBattle read the odometer from the vehicle?
- No. DriveBattle adds the recorded distances to the starting value you enter. If the total drifts from your dashboard, you adjust the reading.
- Where do I see the odometer in the app?
- In the vehicle's maintenance view on a card of its own, and on the vehicle card under "Vehicles" in the settings. You need to have set up maintenance for the vehicle.
- What do I do when the reading does not match my dashboard?
- In the maintenance view tap the pencil icon ("Adjust odometer"), enter the dashboard reading and tap "Save". From then on the app counts on from that value.
- Do rides I recorded without a network count?
- Yes, as soon as they are uploaded. A ride that ended before you entered the starting value does not count, because the reading already includes it.
- Can I show miles instead of kilometres?
- Yes, with the "Units" setting. "Auto" follows your device region. Internally the values stay in kilometres.
- Does the odometer cost anything?
- No. The odometer is part of maintenance, and that is not a Premium feature.
