Connect to start, disconnect to end
When your helmet headset connects, a motorcycle ride begins. When your car Bluetooth or Android Auto connects, a car ride begins. When the device disconnects, the ride ends. You tap nothing, not even with gloves on the handlebar. If you like, the app announces the start and the end briefly (Settings, Ride, Voice announcements).
Assign it once in the garage
Under Settings, Vehicles, you pick the Bluetooth device of each vehicle: the headset for the motorcycle, the car stereo or Android Auto for the car. One device applies per vehicle. Every other Bluetooth device that belongs to no vehicle is ignored by the app. The setup is also a step in the onboarding.
Works with the app closed
The start works even if you swiped the app away or the phone was restarted. After the installation the app must have been opened once, otherwise Android may not wake it in the background.
What the phone needs
Location is set to “allow all the time”, battery optimisation is off for DriveBattle and a device is paired. The “Auto-Start” card in the Drive tab shows which step is still open. Some manufacturers (Xiaomi, OnePlus, Huawei, Samsung with “deep sleep”) restrict background apps further. There you add DriveBattle as an exception in the system settings.
By hand without Bluetooth
In the Drive tab you can start yourself at any time. Ending takes a long press on the stop button, so an accidental tap on the handlebar does not stop your ride.
Frequently asked questions
- How can I record rides automatically?
- Assign a Bluetooth device to each vehicle in the garage. As soon as it connects, DriveBattle starts recording by itself. When it disconnects, the ride ends.
- Does the app have to be open?
- No. The start works even if you swiped the app away or the phone was restarted. After the installation it must have been opened once.
- Does every Bluetooth device start a ride?
- No. Only devices you assigned to a vehicle. The app ignores all others.
- How does the app know whether I ride a motorcycle or drive a car?
- From the connected device: a helmet headset means motorcycle, car Bluetooth or Android Auto means car.
- Why does my ride not start automatically?
- Check in order: Is the device assigned to the vehicle? Is location set to “allow all the time”? Is battery optimisation off for DriveBattle? Does your manufacturer have its own background restriction? Was the app opened once after the installation? The “Auto-Start” card in the Drive tab shows the open step.
- Is the Bluetooth auto start part of Premium?
- No, it belongs to the free scope. Premium includes, among other things, the display and navigation in the car via Android Auto.
