Assign a Bluetooth device to a vehicle: once, in the garage

The motorcycle rides with a helmet headset, the car with its stereo. DriveBattle for Android knows which device belongs to which vehicle once you have picked it in the vehicle. When a device connects, the ride starts with the vehicle it belongs to.

Where you assign the device

Open Settings, Vehicles and add a vehicle or edit one. The field “BT device (auto-start)” opens a list, and each entry shows the name and address of the device. You tap the device and save. Onboarding has the same step as soon as a vehicle exists. You can skip it and do it later in the garage.

Pair in Android first

The list only shows devices your phone has already paired. Android handles the pairing: you connect the headset or car stereo once in the Bluetooth settings. DriveBattle needs the Bluetooth permission to read the list. If it is missing or nothing is paired, the list says “No paired devices visible (BT permission required)”. If nothing is paired, onboarding offers a button that opens the Bluetooth settings.

What the vehicle card shows

Each vehicle card in the garage shows the status. With an assignment it reads “Auto-start via” and the device name, without one “No auto-start device”. If the app cannot read the name, for example without the Bluetooth permission, the card shows the device address.

One device per vehicle

Each vehicle has one device. DriveBattle recognises it by its Bluetooth address and starts the ride for the vehicle that owns it. The vehicle type comes from the vehicle: if the headset belongs to the motorcycle, it is a motorcycle ride. Enter a device for one vehicle only. The app ignores devices without an assignment, so headphones and a smartwatch start no ride. If a car ride is running and the helmet headset connects, the app switches by itself: the car ride ends and uploads, the motorcycle ride begins.

New car detected through Android Auto

When your phone connects to a car through Android Auto, the app looks for the car’s Bluetooth device. If it does not know the address yet, it asks on the phone, never in the car: link to a vehicle, add as a new vehicle, or choose “Not my car”. When you add it, make and model are pre-filled from the catalog if the car reports them. The app never enters anything silently, so a rental car or a friend’s car does not end up in your garage. Only cars without a device of their own are offered for linking. This detection runs through Android Auto and is therefore part of Premium.

Change, remove, no network

Bought a new headset? Open the vehicle, pick the new device and save. “No BT device” removes the assignment, and you start rides by hand. The assignment belongs to the vehicle, and deleting a vehicle keeps its rides. On connect the app asks the server for the vehicle list and falls back to the last loaded list after a few seconds. So the start also works in a garage without reception, as long as the app has loaded the list once before.

Frequently asked questions

How do I assign a Bluetooth device to a vehicle?
Open Settings, Vehicles and then the vehicle. In the field “BT device (auto-start)” pick the paired device and save. For a new vehicle you do this in the same form.
Why is my headset missing from the list?
The list only shows devices Android lists as paired. Pair the headset first in your phone’s Bluetooth settings. Also check that DriveBattle has the Bluetooth permission. Without it the list stays empty.
Does DriveBattle connect my phone to the car or the helmet?
No. You pair in the Bluetooth settings of Android. DriveBattle links a device that is already paired to a vehicle.
Which headsets and car stereos work?
The list shows every device your phone lists as paired. There is no compatibility list by brand. Whether a device connects to the phone when it is switched on depends on the device.
Can I assign several devices to one vehicle?
No. One device applies per vehicle. If you change the device, you pick the new one in the vehicle.
What do I do with a rental car the app reports as a new car?
Tap “Not my car”. The app remembers the address and does not ask again. It never adds a vehicle by itself.
Is the Bluetooth assignment part of Premium?
No. Assigning by hand and the Bluetooth auto start belong to the free scope. Detecting a new car runs through Android Auto, and Android Auto is Premium.
Does the ride also start without internet?
Yes, if the app has loaded your vehicle list once before. It then falls back to the saved list.
