When a pause starts
If your vehicle stays within about 25 metres for roughly two minutes, the recording pauses by itself. A red light or a short stop does not reach that threshold. The pause counts from the moment you stopped, so the two minutes of waiting do not end up in your riding time. Small GPS jumps while standing do not disturb the detection.
When it continues
When you ride off, the recording continues. That takes real riding speed, from about 9 km/h over several measuring points in a row. Walking around a rest stop with the phone in your hand does not end the pause. As a fallback, the pause also ends when you move far from the stopping point, about 120 metres.
Pausing yourself
The Drive tab and the notification of the running ride have a pause button. A manual pause starts when you tap and ends only when you end it yourself. Riding on does not cancel it. If you like, the app announces an automatic pause (Settings, Ride, Voice announcements).
What a pause changes about your ride
Riding time is the total duration minus all pauses, and the average speed is calculated against that riding time. A worked example: 60 kilometres in one hour of riding time plus a 30-minute coffee break give 60 km/h instead of 40 km/h. In the Drive tab, PAUSED and the pause time so far are shown during the pause. The ride summary shows the riding time and below it how much pause it includes. On a motorcycle, lean angle measuring stops during the pause, so a phone in your hand cannot distort a value.
Pauses on the map
Every pause is marked on the map of your ride as a dot with its duration, for example Pause 12 min. The server also derives pauses from the shape of the route and merges them with the pauses of the app. That applies to every uploaded ride.
Who sees your pauses
You see all pauses of your route. Others only see pauses outside your privacy zones, so a stop in front of your front door does not reveal your home.
If you forget to end the ride
If you started the ride by hand and then stand for a while, the app reminds you with a notification after 15 minutes of standstill. DriveBattle splits a very long ride into separate rides at longer standing times when uploading. Routes under about 300 metres do not count as a ride.
Frequently asked questions
- How does DriveBattle detect a pause?
- If your vehicle stays within about 25 metres for roughly two minutes, the recording pauses. Shorter stops, for example at a red light, do not count.
- How is riding time calculated?
- From the total duration of the ride minus all pauses. The average speed is calculated against this riding time, so a coffee stop does not pull the average down.
- How can I pause myself?
- Tap Pause in the Drive tab or in the notification of the running ride. A manual pause ends only when you end it yourself.
- When does an automatic pause end?
- As soon as you ride off at real riding speed, from about 9 km/h over several measuring points in a row. Walking around with the phone at a rest stop does not end it.
- Does standing in a traffic jam count as a pause?
- Yes, if the vehicle stays in the same place for about two minutes. DriveBattle then takes that time out of the riding time. Shorter stops stay riding time.
- Do others see my pauses?
- Only those outside your privacy zones. You see all pauses of your route yourself.
- Do automatic pauses belong to Premium?
- No, they belong to the free scope. Premium includes the lean angle analysis and statistics over periods longer than one week.
