Share routes: your ride as a route for others

Premium

You rode a great tour and want to pass it on. DriveBattle for Android turns the ride into a route that others can ride. You decide who sees it: only you, anyone with the link, your crews, single riders or everyone. Stretches inside your privacy zones are missing from the shared route.

Premium: ride other people's routes as navigation. Sharing, viewing and saving are free. During the beta everything is unlocked.

A ride becomes a route

In the ride summary you find the card “Share as route”, and in the rides list the same function sits in the ride's menu. You give it a name and choose who may see the route. The options are “Only me”, “Anyone with the link”, “My crews”, “Selected people” and “Everyone”. The ride itself stays unchanged, the route is a separate copy of the geometry with length, duration and number of curves.

Privacy zones stay hidden

When the route is created, DriveBattle cuts off the stretches that lie in your privacy zones. The hidden part is not contained in the shared object, and the length also refers only to the visible part, so nobody can read off the size of the hidden piece. A ride that never leaves a zone cannot be shared. The same applies to routes that are under 2 km long after the cut.

By link, even without the app

With “Anyone with the link” the app creates a link. Whoever opens it sees the route on a map in the browser, with length, duration and number of curves, without an account and without the app. A button “Ride in the app” opens it in DriveBattle. The link expires after 90 days, and sharing again extends it. If you set the route back to a different visibility, the old link no longer works. Search engines are not supposed to index the page.

Offer it to one person

You can offer a route to single riders. They get a notification and an entry in the inbox with “View”, “Accept” and “Decline”. Until they accept, they can view the route, and it appears in “My routes” only afterwards. If someone accepts, you find out. If someone declines, you hear nothing, but the list shows “Declined”, and a new offer does not ring again. The recipient can remove accepted routes at any time.

Limits when offering

Anyone may offer, and the offer can be declined. If someone has blocked you or you have blocked them, no offer goes through. Each sender and recipient pair can have at most five open offers. An offer does not raise the visibility: a private route stays invisible to everyone else and is additionally open to the invited person.

Discover public routes

Under “Routes” you switch from “My routes” to “Discover routes”. There you find the public routes of other riders, sorted by “Popular”, “Curvy” or “New”. You can filter by “Loops only” and, if your location is known, set a radius of 25, 50 or 150 km or “Worldwide”. Each row shows an outline map of the route with length, duration and number of curves, so you spot a round trip at a glance. The heart saves a route under “Saved from others”. If you publish a route, a card with the key data and the outline appears in the feed.

Who may ride it

Sharing, viewing and saving are free. You need Premium when you start another rider's route as navigation. You ride your own route without Premium. The server checks this every time the navigation starts. The way there is the same as with “Ride again”: the route lies on the road network, you trim the start and end and set off.

Frequently asked questions

How do I share a ride as a route?
In the ride summary choose “Share as route”, give it a name and set the visibility. In the rides list it works through the ride's menu.
Does anyone see my privacy zones in a shared route?
No. The stretches in privacy zones were cut off when sharing and are not in the shared object. The displayed length also refers only to the visible part.
Does the recipient need an account or the app?
Not for a link. They open the route on a map in the browser. To ride it they need the app.
How long is a route link valid?
90 days. If you share the route by link again, the period starts over. If you changed the visibility in between, the old link is dead.
Can I send a route to just one person?
Yes, through “Selected people”. The person gets a notification and can view, accept or decline.
May I ride another rider's route?
Yes, with Premium. You ride your own routes without Premium. Sharing and viewing are free.
