Analyse motorcycle lean angles: left against right
Premium
A single corner says little. The lean analysis in DriveBattle stacks the measurements of many rides and shows how your lean splits between left and right and which angle ranges you ride in. Do you take right-handers as boldly as left-handers? The card gives you numbers.
Premium: lean analysis in the statistics. The measurement runs for everyone. During the beta everything is unlocked.
Where to find the analysis
Open the "Insights" tab and then "Statistics". The "Lean angle" card with the motorcycle icon sits below the "Personal records" card. It appears as soon as the chosen period has rides with a measured lean angle. The values come from the lean measurement during the ride, which exists for motorcycles only.
Left/right balance
The bar at the top splits your cornering points into left and right. Below it, each side shows its share in percent and the largest angle you rode on that side. Every measurement point from 10 degrees of lean counts as a cornering point. The balance describes your rides and not your riding style: a route with many right-handers shifts it.
Histogram of angle ranges
The block "Time in lean ranges" shows four bars: 10-20°, 20-30°, 30-40° and 40+°. Each bar is the share of your cornering points in that range, and the four shares add up to about 100 percent. Straights and shallow corners under 10 degrees do not count, so there is no bar for 0-10°.
Which rides count
The analysis follows the period you pick at the top, "Week", "Month", "Year" or "All time", and the vehicle filter. Only your own rides with lean values count. Rides that the plausibility check flags as suspicious stay out. A ride without values adds nothing, for example when the server discarded the measurement on upload because the phone sat skewed the whole ride. With a very large number of rides the analysis uses the newest 200. Older rides saved without side information go into the histogram but not into the balance.
What the analysis does not do
The card rates no angle. It names no limit for "a lot" or "too much" and does not compare you with other riders. It shows how your own rides are spread. The quality of the values depends on the measurement: the phone has to sit firmly in its mount, and in a trouser pocket the values are unusable.
Premium, measurement for everyone
The lean analysis is Premium, also for the period "Week". Without Premium the app shows the card blurred with sample values and a note that histogram, balance and max lean come with Premium. A tap opens the Premium page. The sample values do not come from your rides. The measurement runs for everyone so that no ride is missing after an upgrade. During the beta everything is unlocked.
Frequently asked questions
- Which app analyses motorcycle lean angle across several rides?
- DriveBattle for Android. In the "Insights" tab under "Statistics", the "Lean angle" card shows balance and histogram for the chosen period. The analysis is Premium.
- How do I see whether I lean as far left as right?
- The left/right balance shows each side's share of your cornering points and its largest angle. If the shares are far apart, you ride one side more often. The route plays a part too.
- Which angle ranges does the histogram show?
- Four: 10-20°, 20-30°, 30-40° and 40+°. Each bar is the share of your cornering points in that range. Lean under 10 degrees does not count.
- Is 40 degrees of lean a lot?
- The app rates no angle and names no limit. The histogram shows what share of your cornering points lies in 40+, the balance shows the largest angle per side. You have to judge the value yourself.
- Why is the card or the balance missing?
- The card only appears with rides that have lean values, so not with the filter "Car". The balance is missing when the period only holds rides without side information. Without Premium you see the card only blurred, with sample values.
- Does the analysis cover car rides too?
- No. Lean angle is measured on motorcycles only, car rides deliver no values.
- How does the analysis differ from the lean measurement?
- The measurement records the lean angle during a ride. The analysis evaluates the values of many rides: left/right balance and a histogram of the angle ranges.
- Is the lean analysis free?
- No, it is Premium. The measurement runs for everyone, and during the beta everything is unlocked.
